Green Thumb
Cultural practices : sow the beans from mid-May to the end of July, make sure that the danger of frost on the ground has passed, as the seeds are fragile. To germinate, they need a ground temperature of at least 18 ° C, but no more than 24 ° C. Germination of seeds will be poor if they are planted too early or if the soil is too wet.
Soil : it prefers light, well-drained soil.
Spacing : put stakes 2.5 m to 3 m long at 1 m distance. Sow five to eight seeds to leave only four plants for each stake. Along a trellis, thin out the plants to 15 cm.
Growing tips : climbing beans are grown on stakes, fences or trellises and reach about 3 m in height. Ideal when space is tight. Plants ask to be in the sun and to be well watered in dry weather.
Harvest : harvest the beans regularly to encourage new pods. They should not be picked after a rain or early in the morning, this could cause disease.
