Green Thumb

Cultural practices : French shallot seeds should be sown indoors in February.

Soil : they need rich and fertile soil (mineral or organic soil).

Spacing : the row spacing is 35 cm to 38 cm. For larger bulbs, thin out plants to 7cm to 8cm. The removed plants are delicious in salads.

Growing tips : the shallot does not require and support no addition of manure. As she fears standing water, hoe rather than water. In the event of prolonged drought, water only once when the bulbs are forming. Warning! If flowers appear, cut them! They would exhaust the plants to the detriment of the shallots.

Harvest : harvest the shallots when the leaves droop, turn brown and dry out. Drying can be speeded up by folding a few leaves. Once, harvest, put them in a dry, warm and well ventilated place. They keep in a cool, dry room.
