Green Thumb
Cultural practices : turnips grow well in cool weather. Sow them from April 15 to May 15. For a second harvest in the fall, seed in late July / early August. Prepare the soil well.
Soil : loose and fresh.
Spacing : the row spacing is 30 cm to 45 cm and between plants 8 cm to 10 cm.
Growing tips : it appreciates to be cultivated in soils having received a conventional fertilization in the fall or at the very beginning of spring. Additions of well-decomposed compost during cultivation are very beneficial to turnips. Turnip is considered a soil-draining plant. It is therefore advisable not to bring it back to the same place for 3 or 4 years.
Harvest : when the roots have reached 7.5 cm to 10 cm in diameter.
