Indoor sowing : 6 weeks before transplanting in the garden. (*)
(*) From 7 to 10 days after the date of the last ground frost.
Early maturing, easy-growing kale for late summer and fall harvests. Darkibor has upright plant, finely curled leaves and good field holding ability. Richly textured leaves make the best kale chips with extra curls to better hold the seasoning. Delicious snacking!
Green Thumb
Cultural practices : sow them early in spring or in June or July. To prevent disease, do not plant them where crucifers have been grown for the past two years.
Soil : prefers rich, clayey soil with a pH of 6.5 that retains moisture well.
Spacing : Plant them at a depth of 6 mm and at a distance of 2.5 cm. Seedlings should be thinned to 30 cm.
Growing tips : kale roots grow near the surface of the soil be careful when weeding. Do not dig deeper than 3 cm (1 inch) to avoid cutting the roots. Thick mulch will prevent weed growth.
Harvest : you can start harvesting kale after a month, when the leaves are a beautiful, rich green. Remember, if the leaves get too dark, they will be harder and bitter. Don't take too many leaves from one plant, or it will stop growing.
