Recommendations :
Indoor sowing : 8 weeks before transplanting in the garden. (*)
Outdoor sowing : You can also sow directly in the garden. (*)
(*) From 7 to 10 days after the date of the last ground frost.
Here is the earliest red onion ever seen! Because of its genetic (intermediate days), it is very important to grow it as a transplant and transfer it in your garden as early as possible. You will then be able to harvest onions as soon as the end of July.
Green Thumb
Cultural practices : onion seeds should be sown indoors in February.
Soil : they need rich and fertile soil (mineral or organic soil). It should be kept moist but not wet.
Spacing : the row spacing is 35 cm to 38 cm. For larger bulbs, thin out plants to 7cm to 8cm. The removed plants are delicious in salads.
Growing tips : it is recommended to add fertilizer at the start of the crop and again when the bulbs start to swell.
Harvest : harvest the onions when the leaves droop, turn brown and dry out. Drying can be speeded up by folding a few leaves. Once, harvest, put the onions in a dry, warm and well ventilated place. They keep in a cool, dry room.
